1988  Completed the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University, and received a PhD in Medical Science.

1988  Research Assistant, Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University.

1991  Postdoctoral Fellow at a medical research institute in La Jolla, California, United States, now part of the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute.

1992  Principal Researcher, Molecular Oncology Division, National Cancer Center Research Institute.

1993  Head, Laboratory of Cellular Genetics, Molecular Oncology Division, National Cancer Center Research Institute.

Extracellular Vesicle Therapeutics:

Clinical Translation and Future Prospects for Next-Generation Medicine

Lecture Abstract

Research on extracellular vesicles, including exosomes, has advanced rapidly in recent years, accelerating their clinical application in both diagnosis and treatment. In particular, the development of EV-based therapeutics has entered a period of intense global competition. In Japan, the first EV-based investigational product was administered to a patient in February 2026.

 

At the same time, important challenges are becoming increasingly apparent, including quality control, safety assessment, and the development of appropriate regulatory frameworks.

 

This session will review recent advances in EV research and current market trends, while also examining the present status and key challenges of EV-based therapies. Dr. Ochiya will conclude by exploring their future potential as a platform for next-generation medicine.

Understanding Aging

Lecture Abstract

Even in an era of remarkable scientific and technological progress, the biological mechanisms of aging remain only partially understood.

Aging is also one of the most significant risk factors for a wide range of diseases, including cancer. If we can better understand the aging process—and develop ways to prevent or modify it—we may be able to reduce the risk of many age-related conditions. In this sense, understanding aging and intervening medically may represent the ultimate form of preventive medicine.

This lecture will review what is currently known about the molecular mechanisms of aging and explore whether aging can be prevented, slowed, or even reversed.

Clinical Applications of High-Dose Intravenous Vitamin C

Lecture Abstract

High-dose intravenous vitamin C therapy was introduced to a wider medical audience in Japan through Dr. Atsuo Yanagisawa’s 2007 book, Vitamin C Kills Cancer Cells. Today, it is used in cancer care at medical institutions across Japan.

A core principle of orthomolecular medicine is: “The tissue or organ with the highest demand for a nutrient is the first to suffer from its deficiency.”In the case of vitamin C, this may include the adrenal glands, white blood cells, the brain, and the skin.

 

This session will explore the clinical use of high-dose intravenous vitamin C not only in cancer care, but also in conditions involving these vitamin-C-dependent tissues and organs. Dr. Mizoguchi will also share practical approaches to orthomolecular nutritional therapy in clinical practice.

Hiromichi Matsumura, MD

【Biography】

Dr. Hiromichi Matsumura graduated from Nihon University School of Medicine.

He trained in the Department of Anesthesiology at Nihon University Itabashi Hospital and later worked in the Pain Clinic Department at Kanto Teishin Hospital, now NTT Medical Center Tokyo, as well as in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Psychiatry at Seishinkai Ujiie Hospital.

In October 2017, he was appointed Director of SPIC Clinic, now Kamakura Genki Clinic.

In his pursuit of holistic medicine, Dr. Matsumura has developed expertise in Eastern medicine, psychiatry, balneotherapy, orthomolecular medicine, and complementary and alternative medicine. He currently provides comprehensive care that integrates these disciplines, with a particular focus on stress management and preventive medicine.

Glutathione Update 2027:

Beyond IV Therapy and into the Clinical Frontline

In recent years, glutathione has emerged as far more than a simple antioxidant. It is now recognized as a multifaceted thiol system whose effects vary depending on the biological and clinical context.

This lecture will provide an updated overview of glutathione, with a focus on its practical use in intravenous therapy and key considerations for clinical implementation. It will also explore its differentiated applications in aesthetic medicine, its dual role in cancer therapy, the latest insights into neurodegenerative diseases, and its relationship to oxidative stress.

By bringing these perspectives together, the session will offer a more complete understanding of glutathione and its expanding role in clinical practice.

Atsuo Yanagisawa, MD, PhD

【Biography】

Dr. Atsuo Yanagisawa graduated from Kyorin University School of Medicine and completed his graduate studies at the same institution, earning a Doctor of Medical Science degree.

He later studied at Jefferson Medical College in the United States. After returning to Japan, he served as Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Kyorin University School of Medicine and subsequently as Professor in the Department of Emergency Medical Science at the university’s School of Health Sciences.

Since 2008, he has served as Director of the International Center for Integrative Medicine Education. He also founded SPIC Salon Medical Clinic in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, now known as Kamakura Genki Clinic.

Dr. Yanagisawa is a U.S.-certified Chelation Therapy Specialist (CCT) and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).

Medicine Reimagined:

Redefining the Future of Medicine for the Next Decade

Lecture Abstract

Over the past 20 years, the Japanese Society for Intravenous Therapy has explored new possibilities in medicine through the advancement of nutritional medicine, intravenous therapy, and integrative medicine.

This lecture will look back on the Society’s journey from “New Age Medicine” to “Liberal Medicine,” while also examining emerging medical concepts and technologies, including artificial intelligence, personalized medicine, preventive medicine, mitochondrial medicine, environmental medicine, and drug repositioning.

It will then consider the future direction of medicine.

The role of medicine is not limited to treating disease. It must also help maximize human health, potential, and quality of life.

Looking toward the next decade, this lecture will present a new vision for redefining medicine and healthcare.
